Global Cell Solutions, a Virginia-based company, developer of proprietary biomimetic cell culture products, including the GEM^TM magnetic microcarrier, has entered into a supplier and co-marketing agreement with BD Biosciences, a segment of Becton, Dickinson and Company, to provide BD Matrigel^TM matrix and other extracellular matrices (ECMs), for use in an expanded portfolio of the GEM^TMmagnetic microcarrier.  

"BD Matrigel^TM matrix is an extracellular matrix which is essential to the culture of various cellular models, including cancer and stem cells," stated Uday Gupta, President and CEO of Global Cell Solutions, Inc.  "The Global Cell Solutions GEM^TM magnetic microcarrier is designed to bring the advantages of optically transparent microcarrier culture to cell-based research and analysis markets.  Our customers will now have access to a ready-to-use solution combining BD's extracellular matrices with our unique GEM^TM microcarrier to amplify their drug discovery or clinical research efforts." 

Details of the Global Cell Solutions GEM magnetic microcarrier coated with BD Matrigel^TM matrix were revealed at the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA  on December 12, 2010.  The first co-branded commercial product is expected to be launched into the market in early 2011 through Global Cell Solutions' distributors globally, including VWR International within the North American market.  This product will be marketed to the drug discovery and life science research communities for use with a variety of cell types and downstream applications including cellular analysis, tissue engineering, and cell biology.
