Olympus has introduced the new PLAPON 60xOSC objective lens with an NA of 1.4, offering outstanding levels of chromatic aberration correction for life science imaging applications. This super-corrected objective is designed for excellent fluorescence imaging down to an unprecedented 405 nm. It is therefore ideal for use in cell biology and neuroscience, as well as any applications requiring lasers for inter- and intra-cellular imaging of biological specimens.

The PLAPON 60xOSC lens provides 0.1-0.2 µm of chromatic aberration when working with lasers from 405 to 650 nm, exceeding the optimal performance of comparable objectives. Since 405 nm light is used for a wide range of scientific imaging applications, this advanced chromatic aberration enables users to perform multicolour imaging with the highest possible colour fidelity, even at shorter wavelengths. Reliable co-localization and 3-dimensional microstructure studies can be successfully carried-out.

Providing an advanced optical performance with outstanding flatness, even fine lines are clearly defined, significantly reducing the occurrence of shadows at the periphery of the image. As a result, users obtain bright, crisp images from edge to edge. In addition, the PLAPON 60x objective provides excellent near-infrared fluorescence imaging up to 850 nm, with a significant reduction in chromatic and other aberration types. Olympus also guarantees to meet all optical performance specifications provided.

With a working distance of 0.12 mm and a field number of 22, the new Olympus PLAPON x60 objective incorporates proprietary Olympus technology, to enhance point spread function for confocal imaging at low ultraviolet wavelengths. With enhanced flatness and improved brightness at the periphery of the field the objective is designed for use with an appropriate cover glass and immersion oil. Furthermore, it can also be adapted for use with differential interference contrast (DIC).

UIS2 Objectives

Like all Olympus UIS2 objectives, the PLAPON 60xOSC objective lens is constructed using the company's proprietary lead-free ECO glass materials. Signal-to-noise ratios have been enhanced by the specially developed lead-free materials, which drastically reduce the auto-fluorescence of the components, allowing the detection of even the faintest fluorescent signals.
