Chirality has become vitally important in the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and related products, due to the dramatically different pharmacology the various optical isomers can present, ranging from no activity through undesirable effects to having potentially catastrophic and sometimes life threatening adverse effects. This has led to the development of highly efficient chiral stationary phases (CSP) for analytical and preparative scale separations.

With more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing high quality, bonded phases with outstanding reproducibility and reliability, YMC can now offer its well tested YMC*Gel Chiral NEA in preparative particle sizes and large bulk quantities up to 200 kg/lot for preparative applications. YMC*Gel Chiral NEA is compatible with aqueous and organic solvents, and suitable for both reversed phase and normal phase separations as well as for SMB and SFC purification of polar pharmaceutical compounds. Thanks to its easy handling, excellent performance and exceptional cost-efficiency, YMC*Gel Chiral NEA is particularly convenient for the development and scale-up of chiral purification processes.

YMC*Gel Chiral NEA - Fig. 1The CSP consists of a methacrylate-(α-naphthyl) amine copolymer bonded to ultra-pure wide pore YMC silica (see Fig. 1). As a result of the covalent phase bonding YMC*Gel Chiral NEA is compatible with all commonly used mobile phases and shows excellent column durability.

(R) and (S) versions of the CSP are available to provide the facility to invert the elution order of pairs of enantiomers, allowing for easy fractionation by elution of small peaks before the major peak which may otherwise be hidden under the tail of the major peak.

Scale-up
YMC*Gel Chiral NEA is easily scalable from analytical to large scale separations: The CSP is available in 5 and 10 µm particle size in prepacked columns, and the 10 µm material is also available in bulk for use in dynamic axial compression columns, in lot sizes up to 200 kg. Larger particle sizes for SMB applications are available on request. In addition, scout columns are available for convenient method development.

YMC*Gel Chiral NEA - Scale-up

For maximum reliability, YMC*Gel Chiral NEA is subject to YMC’s rigorous manufacturing and quality control. Together with YMC’s well known high quality, reproducibility and technical support, it provides a significant tool for chiral purifications from bench- to production- scale.
