Eppendorf video features Dr Andrew Holt's work on bioactive leachates from plastic consumables
It is nearly impossible to imagine our daily life without
synthetic materials. In molecular and biochemical laboratories, consumables
made from plastic are used in practically every application.
In 2008 a report in Science by Dr. Andrew Holt and his group
from the University of Alberta, Canada, described that chemicals used as
manufacturing additives can substantially inhibit enzymatic assays and binding
studies by leaching into the sample.
We visited Dr. Holts lab with a film team to ask him how assays can be affected
and how he ensures unaffected and reproducible results. Watch the video
